Emissions & Sustainability

Empowering the Energy Transition

By Mark TrumanNo Comments4 min read

The energy transition is a balancing act. Producers need to meet rising global demand while cutting emissions, integrating renewables, and answering to more scrutiny than ever from regulators, investors, and the public. McKinsey’s analysis of the energy transition puts a number on the pace of the transition: solar PV capacity alone grew by around 180 gigawatts in Europe and 120 gigawatts in the US since 2015.

Whatever a business is building towards, the ground keeps shifting under it.

Software that can’t keep up with that pace becomes part of the problem. Software that can adapt as fast as the market moves becomes part of the answer.

Why agility matters

The energy industry is under real pressure to meet greenhouse gas emission targets and contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement, while still running efficient, profitable operations. Optimising operations, integrating renewable energy, and reducing emissions all have to happen at once, and conventional software development cycles are too slow and too costly to keep up.

That pressure isn’t going away. Deloitte’s 2025 Renewable Energy Industry Outlook found that investment in cleantech manufacturing reached a record $71 billion in the third quarter of 2024 alone, with digital capability set to remain a defining issue through 2025. Businesses that can configure their own systems, rather than wait on a vendor’s roadmap, are the ones best placed to move with the market rather than behind it.

What EnergySys makes possible

EnergySys is a PaaS, a cloud-native platform, not a fixed application, purpose-built for the energy sector. It’s designed to let business professionals, not software engineers, build, deploy, and manage the applications their operations actually need.

Instead of writing code, teams build using spreadsheet logic, the same formulas and structures hydrocarbon accountants, production engineers, and emissions analysts already use every day. It’s low-code, not no-code: there’s no drag-and-drop app that appears with zero setup, but there’s also no need to write a specification and wait for a developer to build it. The people who know the assets and the business best can build tailored solutions directly, fast.

That matters most where the rules keep changing. An Australian E&P operator needed to track captured carbon volumes accurately and meet strict regulatory reporting requirements for a carbon capture and storage project, without a heavy IT build. Using EnergySys’s low-code tools, their own team configured the workflows and calculations directly, with an audit trail built in from day one. As the project has grown, new data sources and evolving regulatory requirements have been accommodated through configuration rather than a rebuild, because the team that built it is the team that runs it.

The same platform already supports greenhouse gas emissions tracking alongside production allocation, giving operators a single, auditable source of truth for both operational and environmental data, rather than two disconnected systems that require manual reconciliation.

Our partnerships

EnergySys works with a growing network of partners who bring domain expertise in metering, allocation, and emissions to the platform.

CarbonOptics, a joint venture between Elite Energy and Nexia Edwards Marshall, has built a multi-framework emissions solution on EnergySys, automating GHG data collection, tracking, and regulatory reporting for operators navigating Australia’s NGER scheme and the Safeguard Mechanism. Because it’s built on the same platform as production allocation, operators get a single, auditable source of truth for both their operational and environmental data, rather than two systems that need to be reconciled by hand.

Partners like this build templates that give operators a faster start on GHG tracking, LNG operations, and hydrocarbon accounting, each configured to the client’s and regulator’s specific rules, not a generic approximation of those rules.

EnergySys also holds AWS Energy Competency status, awarded in 2021 in recognition of our technical proficiency and proven customer success across the energy sector.

The bottom line

The energy transition doesn’t reward businesses that wait for a vendor to catch up. It rewards those who can adapt their own systems as quickly as the market, regulations, and technology evolve.

EnergySys gives energy companies a platform built to do exactly that: low-code, cloud-native, and configured by the people who understand the operation, not a vendor working through a backlog. Explore the EnergySys platform, or book a call to talk through what it could look like for your business.
