Experience and Expertise

Our team have been building Hydrocarbon Allocation and Production Reporting systems for over a decade now (though sometimes it seems longer). We really do understand what it takes to create outstanding results and, abandoning all pretence of false modesty, we have never failed to deliver. Oh, and we whistle while we work.

ENERGYSYS 4 encapsulates all of our experience with the successful delivery of complex systems against challenging timescales, including the SMART system for the SAGE gas plant, the allocation and nominations system for Atlantic LNG, and the commercial management system for BTC. We have used this experience to work out how to remove the complexity from systems development, and to create a product that you can use to build systems more simply, cheaper and faster.

And our experience isn't just with gas, or oil, or in a single geography like the North Sea. We've supplied systems for several of the key players in the Gulf of Mexico, UK North Sea, West Africa, Caspian Sea, and Caribbean, and we have continued to win repeat business on the basis of the quality of our products and services. We've delivered systems for crude oil, for gas, and for LNG, from tank and lifting management through to gas nominations and most stuff in-between.

Case Studies

Production Reporting

Production reporting is often a major challenge for smaller operators, and the lack of appropriate and cost-effective tools causes issues with data management, auditing, and change control.

There can be significant effort involved in loading and checking data, carrying out the allocation from platforms to fields and wells, and issuing reports to partners and management. This work probably has to be done daily and monthly, with reconciliations as third-party data is received.

Having acquired mature assets in the North Sea, Ithaca Energy had to decide how to implement a solution for production reporting and allocation, and after reviewing the available options they decided that ENERGYSYS offered the ideal combination of functionality, price and accessibility. With no need to purchase expensive hardware or software, they could get started immediately. As knowledge of their new assets developed they were able to make a number of significant changes quickly and cost-effectively.

Commercial Operations System

Managing the commercial operations of the BTC pipeline running from Baku in Azerbaijan through to Ceyhan in Turkey is a complex business, and the ENERGYSYS platform was judged to be the only viable option for the company. This crude transportation system handles delivery for multiple parties, so the system must support nomination of capacity, enforcement of booking rules, short-term and long-term forecasting, tank management, scheduling of liftings, value-based allocation, and several other business processes. The complexity is only manageable with a tool as sophisticated and powerful as ENERGYSYS, and that power and functionality is now available online on a per user per month subscription.

LNG Plant Allocation

Atlantic LNG run a major LNG operation in Trinidad, operating four trains processing some amount of gas every day. Each train has slightly different rules for allocation of produced LNG and NGL, and must take account of losses and fuel gas.

The company had already encoded its complex business rules in spreadsheets, but needed a solution that offered robustness, security, version control, and data management. The spreadsheet engine in ENERGYSYS made the product a natural choice, as Atlantic LNG could deliver an enterprise web application with all the features they needed while reusing their tested and proven assets.

Gas Management System

The SAGE gas plant at St Fergus continues to be a major supplier to the UK gas transmission network, but the nature of the business has evolved. Changes have occurred in the third-party participants, with many new and changed entrants, and nominations and allocation rules have seen steady and ongoing revision. The SMART system was originally a custom build for Mobil North Sea Limited, but over recent years it has been enhanced with key components from the ENERGYSYS platform, including the reporting solution and spreadsheet engine. These enhancements have allowed us to drive down the costs of change, and to meet the customer's needs without expensive upgrades or platform replacements. It's a 24x7 operation, so they need to be able to depend on the solution to deliver the availability and reliability they need, and it does.
