In the days before Linkedin, attending events and social networking was hugely vital to the success of a company. But with everything going digital, is it as beneficial to attend events as it once was, or have they become irrelevant and a waste of time and money? Couldn’t you get the same information online from the comfort of your office? Here’s why I think it’s better to make the effort and turn up…
1) Get out of the office
Sometimes you just have to get out of the office. Take advantage of being out of your usual environment, and soak up the atmosphere. Take your time, and talk to as many relevant people as you can, and get the latest information. You might find that you return to work with a refreshed mind, and a whole load of new, innovative ideas.
2) Make new discoveries
Make sure you are familiar with the schedule before you pitch up. Know exactly who you want to speak to and where they are located. Even write down the points you want to ask each company so that you can compare your findings afterwards and weigh up the best options.
If you want to discuss production accounting and our platform for agility, our CEO, Dr Peter Black is keen to talk to you and you can hook up by emailing Kirsty here.
3) Meet new people and build lasting relationships
Social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin are great for catching up with people, maintaining contact, and even for meeting people. However, a virtual introduction to someone new can never replace meeting them in person, where lasting relationships can be made and developed.
Make the most of OTC and PNEC
Don’t be afraid to make the first move. Whether it’s a formal meeting in a hotel, or a more casual meeting over a round of golf, make the effort to get to know your new acquaintance.
